Submitting a Letter to the Editor

Most news outlets across the state have an online submission for letters to the editor, a link to each form is below. If your local paper does not have an online form, you may check for the contact information of the opinion page editor or the editor of the paper and submit an email directly to them.

As a general rule, the word count of your LTE should not exceed 300 words. Double check the word limit for your local paper as limits can vary from outlet to outlet.

Not sure what to write about? Here are some topic ideas and bullet points to get you started:

We cannot wait for climate action

  • ACC2 and ACT are important milestones for NM to set us on the road to electrification. However, it will take time

  • The increasing effects of climate change in NM

  • Cannot delay carbon reductions to the future when everyone drives an EV

  • The CTFS provides a strong incentive to decarbonize transportation fuel as much as possible, as soon as possible

  • The program not only accelerates electrification, but incentivizes clean liquid and gaseous fuels

Yes to “all-of-the-above”

  • Can’t change the fuels we use overnight

  • Literally cannot afford to only focus only on the future vehicles people might drive

  • Need cleaner fuels that can be used in the cars and trucks we drive today

  • Encouraging companies to invest in clean fuel production will mean more options at the pump to compete for our fuel dollars

What will a Clean Transportation Fuels Standard mean for you?

  • See here for NM Alternative Fuels and Vehicle data

  • Gas prices for alt fuels

  • How the program will benefit even those without flex fuel vehicles (better air quality and the benefits of bio and renewable diesel in our fleets)

The future of the U.S. energy economy

  • Brief look at clean energy initiatives already implemented in other states

  • What policy experts are forecasting

  • Benefits of New Mexico getting ahead of the curve/the risks of falling behind
