Environmental Benefits of the Clean Transportation Fuels Standard
The Clean Transportation Fuels Standard will remove 18.5 million metric tons of CO2 – the equivalent of eliminating an entire year’s worth of emissions from every car and truck in New Mexico.
Cleaner fuels mean less pollution, so we can all breathe easier.
Reduce Air Pollution
The new Clean Transportation Fuels Standard would require transportation fuels to become cleaner, and less polluting, over time. It would require that our fuels be 20% cleaner by 2030 and 30% cleaner by 2040. Cleaner fuels means cleaner air and better health for New Mexicans.
As we make our transition to a low-carbon economy, a CTFS will ensure that clean fuels can compete with conventional gasoline and diesel at the pump, offering drivers cleaner—and sometimes cheaper—options that lower both air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions.
Fight Climate Change
Lower carbon fuels in our cars, buses, and trucks mean fewer greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the air. Fewer GHGs means we are doing our part to fight extreme weather events like droughts, fires, and floods that are caused by climate change.
Climate change affects everyone change affects everyone. By reducing GHGs in transportation, the CTFS will benefit us all.
